Edinburgh Meadowbank Stadium 6th August 1988

NME 20th August 1988

Deacon Blue. From their inception DB have been a stadium act, and of all today's acts they are the most comfortable, with the format. Ricky Ross, the schoolteacher with the silver tipped boots grows more extrovert on every outing, and credit where its due, DB go down a storm scoring the day's only encore after a triumphant rendition of their anthem'Dignity; a song which contains perhaps the most pained metaphor in the history of songwriting.

Looking life an extra from LA Law, Ross conducts himself in the manner of a Glaswegian Springsteen, but in truth he's nearer Paul Young. One sour note though, the uptempo'Real Gone Kid', trailed here as a possible single, is a prize turkey.
