JOSTLING for space at the top of the network chart among the Yellow Bikinis and Jive Bunnies, is a four-track collection of Burt Bacharach and Hal David songs by Deacon Blue. Since their early days in Glasgow. the six-piece hand led by singer/songwriter Ricky Ross has always had a loyal following on live dates around the UK and their sell-out gigs this week at London’s Wembley Arena confirm them as one of Scotland's finest bands.
Sharing vocals with his new wife Lorraine Mcintosh, Ross and his band stormed through a two-hour set with an energetic selection at songs from their two studio albums. the wonderful Raintown and When The World Knows Your Name. Slowing the pace for his favourite track from the Bacharach and David EP number The Look Of Love. Ricky, Lorraine and the boys. joined by a terrific three-piece brass section who call themselves the Kick Horns soon swung up-tempo. At the end of the evening there was no doubt that Deacon Blue who take their name from an old Steely Dan song have a huger international future. Front Row Rating 9
