This Is The Life

THE former Deacon Blue frontman seems to be fighting an uphill struggle to shed the skin of his previous pop incarnation. If you're expecting to pop this into your CD player and relive the glory days of Fergus Sings The Blues and Chocolate Girl, then you'll be sorely disappointed. But Ricky is as enthralling as the dear old Deacon sound and will more than appeal to fans of the likes of Ryan Adams and David Gray.

To cut a long story short, this is quite simply the best solo material Ricky has made. It combines thoughtful lyrics with subtle tunes. Stand-out tracks include My Girl Going To Town, the Americano pop of Hippy Girl and Looking For My Own Lone Ranger. Julie MacCaskill
