This Is The Life
Guitarist June 2002 Issue 224

Sadly, last yearís Deacon Blue reunion album Homesick failed to capture the record buying publicís imagination and perhaps one reason was that individual members have moved on musically since their time together. Here we have main man Ricky Ross doing his own thing on this solo release that has been a full six years in the making. The result is a strong collection of songs that suits Ricky's very individual voice to a tee. The production retains a band feel rather than the singer/songwriter-type of album you might expect. Recording everyone together in the studio like in the old days, where successive takes were recorded, plays a major part in creating that element. If you like Deacon Blue but were disappointed with the last album then just check out London Comes Alive, great stuff. 4/5 Roger Newell
