I Thought I Saw You
I thought I saw you on St Vincent street
Twenty nine years later and almost out of reach
And nothing had changed with your hair
And there's nothing new that wasn't there
I remember you only in beautiful blue
Bright summer skies, dark winter hues
And it's taken me some years and days
And nothing's left now but a space
(Where you were)
Oh oh
I thought I saw you on St Vincent street
Life moves on, loves incomplete
And nothing was ever the same
I never looked back again
Raintown
It`s a rain dirt town job hurts but it don`t pay
All these calls they`re making me and driving you insane
Don`t you see
Don`t you understand
Waiting for the phone to ring to make me all I am.
You`re in the suburbs waiting for somewhere to go
I'm down here working on some dumb show
In a Raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those tired eyes and tears and frowns
In a Raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those days you`re not around
It takes a big hearted girl from the North Country you can tell
How you payed those bills and went through heaven and hell
You cried and you travelled and you spat but you never asked
Well how long how long how long is this pain
You`re on for three minutes trying hard to say hello
I`m down here working on some dumb show
CHORUS
Sitting at home listening to your radio
Listening for your old friend talking on some dumb show
CHORUS
I'm Supposed To Love You
Look at us people think they know
They won't get us from conversation
We're so much more than just what's on show
Like eveyone, we're complicated
Either way, anyway
Oh we're bound to break sometimes
We're gonna fall apart and come undone
No one's wrong and no one's right
It's just a different place we started from
Don't you know by now?
I'm supposed to love you
Wouldn't wish us any other way
Nothing good is ever easy
I'm man enough to learn from my mistakes
I know i'm better when you're with me
Either way, anyway
Oh we're bound to break sometimes
We're gonna fall apart and come undone
No one's wrong and no one's right
It's just a different place we started from
Don't you know by now?
I'm supposed to love you
I was meant to love you
Don't you know by now?
Thank god that I love you
At My Weakest Point
(For Vainess)
I want someone who can save you
I want someone that behaves for you
Somebody who makes you feel like getting up again
When you're down
I want someone who can hold you
Someone who's not afraid to scold you
Who'd never say the things to bring you down again
Like, I told you
In place of dread bring comfort...
May you have love
May you have love and joy
Everything I'd wish for at my weakest point
I want someone who can send you
Someone who knows how to defend you
Knowing you'd sooner have no one
Than have no more days of adventure
And water for your soul
And water for your soul
May you have love
May you have love and joy
Everything I'd wish for at my weakest point
The Kid At The Airport
One soulless night, in a terminal bar
You were one in of a family of others
That long farewell - well I saw everything
You were just the kid in amongst the
crowd at the airport..
I'll say goodbye
Only one last time
What's that we always said?
I've got to fly
Think of me
And I'll think of you
What the future holds
Nobody knows
We talked through everything
But we never said anything
So I can't help wondering
What can I do now but wait for you?
To say goodbye
For one last time
What's that we always said?
I got to fly
Sometimes
It's only memories
That keep us from
Our darkest days
I was there went you went away
I could hear each brother, mother, sister say
Don't go to tomorrow son
Or if you do don't be everyone
cause you never know tomorrow
Till it's done
Goin' Back
I think I'm goin' back
To the things I knew so well in my youth
I think I'm returning to
A time when I was young enough to know the truth
Now there are no games
To simply pass the time
No more electric trains
No Christmas bells to chime
But thinking young and growing older is no sin
And I can play the game of life to win
I can recall a time
When I wasn't afraid to reach out to a friend
And now I think I've got
A lot more than just a skipping rope to lift
And there's more to do
Than watch my sailboat glide
And everyday can be my magic carpet ride
And I can play hide and seek with my fears
And live my days instead of counting my years
Where everyone debates true reality
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be
A little bit of freedom is all you lack
So catch me if you can
I'm goin' back
A Gordon For Me
(For Gordon Aikman and Joe Pike)
When one door opens howling rain comes in
I should know this after I slammed it shut again
But in my dreams you'll come back and we'll be walking
In my dreams, in my dreams (we'll begin)
You and me
We were the kings of the world
You can have everything
All the silver and the gold
You can take anything
Anything you want but leave me this
I need a Gordon, I need a Gordon for me
I need a Gordon, I need a Gordon for me
Love is splendid, love is golden
Love wins everything, if it can grow older
And ours grew stronger as life got colder
So we began like there was no tomorrow
You and me
Were the kings of the world
You can have everything
All the silver and the gold
You can take anything
Anything you want but leave me this
I need a Gordon, I need a Gordon for me
I need a Gordon, I need a Gordon for me
Oh, oh oh
Oh, oh oh
Oh, oh oh
Oh, oh oh
The Germans Are Out Today
Its dark in the car
we're deep in the garden of England
its dark in the car
they're all asleep but you and me
there's time to talk
we're only on holiday
and I think you said this to me
The Germans are out today
they won the war you know
I didn't look for salvation
but,boy I found it there
in and RAF bunkhouse
I borrowed a bible
the fellow who owned it
wanted it shared
Outside a locked door
in front of a dusty store
outside a locked door
we talked through the drunken singing in the rain
there's no time talk
not while we're standing here
but even now I thought I heard you say
Hey it don't last forever
hey were we there together
its so dark in this prism life
take back the years
hold back the tears
on all of these days
that might not have been there at all
I Was Right And You Were Wrong
I was right and you were wrong girl
Nothing lasts forever
Inside every one of us
There`s only so long
I believe the longest day girl
The lovely light of May girl
I asked if I could ever leave
I never saw a change
But I will
What I say
What I do
I was right and you were wrong girl
Nothing seems the same
I heard you on the radio
Your voice was so strange
But I will
What I say
What I do
Only God And Dogs
I saw you passing through
You didn't catch my eye
I said, oh no
I'm only sleeping on the street
And I was woken by the singing and the laughter
Knowing nothing I do or think can really matter
I saw you wandering
I saw you raking through the bins
I saw your clothes, I smelt your shoes
Your empty boxes and your tins
But I'd know you anywhere
If I saw you morning night or noon
That's why I lift myself up enough just to run after you
I'd give you everything of me
Knowing you can't return it back in full
That's why I love you
The way only God and Dogs can do
That's why I love you
The way only God and Dogs can do
I think of yesterday
We never got out of the door
I said, oh no
I can only lie down on the floor with you
In the the shape you're in
Cause you've been drinking everything
When we go out on the street
I can see them wondering
What's he doing with him
When he could have a better life
Somewhere with the lights all burning bright
And the fire to lie down beside each night
But I never wanted that if I wanted anything
I just wanted someone who's life would fall apart
If I went missing
So I give you everything of me
Knowing you can't return it back in full
That's why I love you
The way only God and Dogs can do
I love you just the way only God and Dogs can do
Siggi The Bully
Dear siggi
I miss you
Won't you come back to school?
Dear siggi
You're hurting
Come back and play the fool
I could be the one
(You could be the one)
We could have the same fun
(You could have some fun)
If only you were black and blue
And broken by the blows in two
So people like me
And everyone here
Would all know what to do
Would all know what to do
About you
Dear siggi
We miss you
No one picks on me like you used to do
So siggi
You beat me
Just like we used to do to you
I would be the one
(He would the one)
Don't you think it's fun
(Yes it's fun for everyone)
If only you were black and blue
And broken by the blows in two
So people like me
And everyone here
Would all know what to do
Would all know what to do
About you
Crew cut, girly mags
Clean shoes, dirty laugh
Smiling on a school photograph
Wages Day
There he stood and there we left
Outside the flashing neon sign
With the smell of cheap cigars
And the hope of sweet perfume
And his heart it was reeling
With the thrill of it all
All to do and only hours
He said all this is all yours
You can have it all
You can take it all away
From where we left off
Living it all your way
If you`ll stand in my shoes
If you`ll do what I do
On a wages day
On a wages day
And the cap from Disneyland
That his cousin she brought back
Stays open in his hand
From one week to another
And this long narrow land
Is full of possibility
All to do and only hours
He said all this is all yours
CHORUS
On a wages day
On a wages day
On a wages day
On a wages day
If you`ll do what I do
On a wages day
